Step by Step
The Osaka Museum of Housing and Life is a veritable time capsule that will take you through more than 300 years of urban and domestic history in Japan. It is the country's first museum specifically dedicated to this subject, making it an essential stop for those who want to learn about how the city and its inhabitants have evolved.
One of the museum's main attractions is the full-scale reconstruction of a street from the Edo period (19th century), located on the ninth floor. Here you will find merchants' houses, public baths, an administrative office and other spaces that will make you feel like you are really walking through old Osaka. You can also see how dwellings changed during the modern era thanks to architectural models and everyday objects on display on the eighth floor.
Throughout the year, the museum also organises temporary exhibitions and seasonal events that further enrich the visit. Interaction with models, audiovisual elements and sensory environments make it an ideal educational experience for both adults and children.
This indoor space is perfect to visit at any time of the year, as it does not depend on the weather. Its design invites you to discover every corner calmly, and its detailed recreations make the tour enveloping and photogenic.
