Step by Step

Palazzo Madama is a building with a thousand-year history. Originally a Roman gate, it was first transformed into a medieval fortress and later into a castle. Since 1933, it has housed the Civic Museum of Ancient Art, one of the most important in the city. By choosing a skip-the-line ticket, you will be able to enter its spaces and discover the works of art it houses, such as:

  • "Portrait of a Man", Antonello da Messina: it depicts a man wearing a black hat and red suit. He could be a merchant of the 15th century gentry, probably Venetian.
  • Van Eyck manuscript: a manuscript with miniatures made in the 14th century for Duke Jean de Barry, brother of the French sovereign.
  • "Judgement of Solomon", Agostino Masucci: inspired by the biblical story of the same name, it was originally painted to be exhibited in the Royal Palace in Turin.
  • Tesoro di Desana: an extraordinary collection of medieval gold and silver jewellery.
  • Ceramics: vases, cups and plates, made by the main Italian production centres.

In addition to the paintings and statues, it is worth climbing the tower and admiring the panoramic view of the city.

There were many details to see inside the museum and it is definitely worth it. The paintings, the ceramics and in general everything is very well preserved.

Entry was quick and easy with skip the line. I went along with my two children, my mother and my husband, and we were each on our own note looking at what we were most interested in.
