Major League Baseball
Major League Baseball (MLB) consists of 30 franchises divided into the American League and the National League, each with three divisions.
History of MLB
The National League was founded in 1876 and the American League in 1901; the first World Series was played in 1903. The expansion from 1961-69 introduced new teams, and with the divisions of 1969 and the wild cards in 1994, the postseason grew to the current 12 teams. Among the most significant reforms are the moving back of the pitcher's mound in 1893, the introduction of the designated hitter to the AL in 1973, its universal adoption in 2022, and the implementation of the pitch clock, larger bases, and limits on defensive shifts in 2023.
Notable MLB Players
Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax, Derek Jeter, Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Mookie Betts are among the great legends.
Information on the MLB Schedule
Each club plays 162 games from late March to late September. The balanced schedule introduced in 2023 includes 52 games within the division, 64 against opponents in the same league, and 46 interleague games. The 2025 season starts on March 27 and ends on September 28; the All-Star Game will be held on July 15 in Atlanta.
