Step by Step
By choosing a scooter tour, you will be able to move around San Diego easily, admiring its most emblematic places. You won't have a guide, but a simple GPS system that will allow you to move from one point to another without difficulty. The tour usually lasts approximately 3 hours, although you will have the opportunity to manage your time as you wish.
The meeting point is usually a central area, such as the Little Italy neighbourhood, where mainly fishermen and local cannery workers used to live. The other stops are usually as follows:
- San Diego Bay Walk - The city's waterfront promenade. In addition to skyline views, it is home to the Maritime Museum, children's playgrounds, the USS Midway aircraft carrier, restaurants and much more.
- Gaslamp Quarter - The original core of the city. Historic buildings are concentrated mainly along 5th Avenue.
- Banker's Hill - Elegant residential area not far from downtown. Home to historic homes, such as the splendid Marston House, and walking paths lined with bars and restaurants.
- Coronado Island - A peninsula joined to the mainland by a sandbar called Sliver Strand. Its most distinctive buildings are the Victorian-style Hotel del Coronado, for which the area is named, and the Museum of Art and History. Tourists and locals frequent this part of San Diego for its well-kept beaches.
- Balboa Park - One of the oldest green spaces in the United States. It is home to several museums with distinctive Spanish architecture. Named after Nunez de Balboa, the first westerner to reach the Pacific Ocean across Central America.
The route is usually done on a 'Fat Tire' scooter, with thick wheels that provide good stability. In any case, before starting, the instructor will explain the characteristics of the vehicle. The activity also includes free transport on the ferry to Coronado Island.
