MoMa New York Opening Times
The MoMA is undoubtedly one of New York's great attractions. With a huge collection of almost 200,000 pieces, keep in mind the opening hours to organise your visit as best as possible.
Located in the heart of Manhattan, next to Central Park, is the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, which boasts some of the most important works in history.
Although it is open every day and has long opening hours, be aware that there may be exceptions, so take note of the opening hours of the museum, its cafes and shops to organise your visit. Oh, and remember to book your MoMA tickets to avoid long queues and unnecessary time wasting at the ticket booths.
MoMa Opening Hours
The MoMa, located in Midtown Manhattan, is open every day of the week during the following hours:
- Sunday to Friday, 10.30 am to 5.30 pm,
- Saturdays (extended hours), 10:30 am to 7:00 pm. A
- Exceptions: Monday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., opening hours are for members only.
Opening hours of PS1, MoMa Cultural Space (in Queens)
PS1 is open from Thursday to Saturday, from 12:00 to 20:00, and Sunday and Monday, from 12:00 to 18:00. This space is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Please note that MoMA has two locations, the main MoMA in Midtown Manhattan (11 West 53 Street), and PS1 or cultural space, located in Queens (22-25 Jackson Avenue), which focuses on contemporary art.
When is MoMa closed?
MoMA is closed on certain days of the year, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and, in the case of MoMA PS1, New Year's Day.
MoMa restaurants opening hours
The MoMa has various gastronomic and leisure areas where you can relax before, after or during your visit at the following times:
- The Modern: Lunch, Tuesday to Saturday, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, and dinner, Tuesday to Saturday, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
- Café 2: Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- Terrace Café: Monday to Thursday, 11:00 to 16:00, and Friday to Sunday, 11:00 to 17:00.
- Garden Bar (in the Sculpture Garden): Wednesday to Saturday, 12:00 to 16:30.
- MoMA PS1 (Chef Mina Stone): Thursday to Sunday.

The MoMa's design shops are the perfect place where you can pick out the best souvenir of your visit to the Museum to take home. When are they open? Read on:
MoMA Design Store, Midtown (44 West 53rd Street, New York)
- Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 10:30 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturday, 10:30 am to 7:00 pm.
This shop is a great place to buy original gifts. It is also located across the street from the museum, between 5th and 6th Avenue, so you can visit the shop independently of visiting the museum.
MoMA Design Store, Soho (81 Spring Street, New York).
- Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Located between Crosby and Broadway, this is another key point to take home the best MoMa souvenirs, some merchandising or prints of its outstanding works.
The Museum Store (11 West 53rd Street, New York)
- Opening hours: Sunday to Monday, 10:30am-6pm, and Saturday, 10:30am-7pm.
This shop is located between the 5th and 6th floors of the MoMa itself, so it's the perfect place to end your visit to the museum.
What is the best time to visit MoMA?
Any time is a good time to visit the MoMA, but due to the large number of works, it is advisable to go early in the morning to have as much time as possible to enjoy the collection at your leisure.
How long does a visit to MoMA last?
The visit is estimated to take at least three hours. Even so, if you are short on time and want to visit the most famous paintings, it is advisable to check the map before starting the visit. The best works to see at the MoMA, or at least the ones you shouldn't miss, are mostly on the 4th and 5th floors.
