Step by Step

Learn all about the history surrounding the Destrehan Plantation in New Orleans with this reservation. A professional guide will guide you through the preserved stories of this museum, the oldest in Lower Mississippi, in a tour lasting about 45 minutes and in groups of about 19 people.

The Destrehan Plantation is a Louisiana Heritage Site with a 300-year history. The main house was built in 1787 when Louisiana was still part of the Spanish Empire, and the Destrehan family was one of the most important during the French and Spanish colonial era.

This plantation grew by the hard work of slaves, as documented in the museum and as you can see. Therefore, the history of the colonial era and slavery will be the focus of this experience.

During the tour you can visit the main house, the slave cabins and the grounds, where you can take a break for a snack under one of the century-old trees. You will also have the opportunity to visit the gift shop to pick up some handmade gifts from the plantation, located 25 minutes from downtown New Orleans.
