Charleston's cuisine has been influenced by its proximity to the sea, its British and slave-owning heritage, its American culture and its abundance of nuts and dried fruits.
Blue crab chowders, pulled pork burgers, shrimp and seafood stews are well known. Dishes and desserts with nuts, such as peanuts and almonds, are also plentiful. Benne wafers, tasty biscuits made from walnuts, brown sugar and butter , are famous. Another of the city's popular desserts is praline, which, despite its French origin, is a renowned dessert made by southern cooks.
Along the way, you'll also stroll through the popular Upper King Street district , a trendy area filled with cutting-edge, innovative restaurants, stylish shops and modern entertainment venues. Another of the city's most vibrant neighbourhoods is Radcliffeborough, home to trendy cocktail bars and a vibrant food scene with American steakhouses, Italian restaurants and seafood restaurants.
