Explore the authentic rural atmosphere of England with this day trip from Oxford to the charming villages of the Cotswolds. Join this minivan tour for around 7 hours and, in small groups of up to 8 people, travel in comfort through the beautiful countryside. With a local guide guiding you through the most picturesque villages, you'll see everything from small tea rooms to stone villages and medieval ruins.
Departing from the historic city of Oxford opposite the train station, here you'll see a local driver/guide waiting for you and the group with a sign in his hands. Climb aboard a modern, air-conditioned vehicle and with the company of fellow travellers enjoy the lush scenery as you head into the heart of the Cotswolds .
Your day will begin with a visit to the fascinating village of Great Tew, which looks like something out of a fairytale with its rolling hills, wildflower meadows and serene woodland. Soak up the essence of this iconic corner of England, admire its beautiful thatched cottages and then travel to Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds. Stroll through its ancient cobbled streets that are steeped in history and traditional trade, and explore among its beautiful honey-coloured buildings and small tea rooms .
Continue the journey through the pretty village of Lower Slaughter with its small hamlets, and from here head on to discover England's most famous and beautiful town, Bourton on the Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' . With a wealth of attractions, shops, cafes, restaurants and attractive nooks and crannies, here you'll have free time to explore the charm of the place, as well as enjoying lunch on your own.
You'll then spend the afternoon travelling through the town of Buford, home to one of the region's oldest and most beautiful churches, and finish with a visit to hidden villages in the stunning Windrush Valley .
From idyllic Swinbrook, home to the famous Mitford Sisters and one of the most isolated villages, to Minster Lovell and its ancient 15th century ruins, owned by generations of the Lovell family. A real hidden gem with many thatched and stone roofs, it is also "The most haunted village in the region" . After this visit, you will travel back to Oxford train station and this tour is over.
