Step by Step
The Erawan Museum is not just a place for exhibitions, but a gateway to Thai spirituality, symbolism and artistic beauty. Created by Lek Viriyaphant, also responsible for the Shrine of Truth and Ancient Siam, this museum was conceived as a cultural sanctuary to preserve and honour Thailand's heritage.
From the outside, the museum is striking with its monumental bronze statue of a three-headed elephant (Erawan) standing on a pedestal with a total height of 44 metres. This image is impressive not only for its size, but also for its significance: it represents the Hindu myth of the sacred elephant that sustains the world.
Inside the museum, the tour is divided into three levels: the underworld, which houses a collection of ancient porcelain; the earth, which exhibits religious artefacts and a statue of the goddess Guan Yin; and finally, the sky, located inside the elephant's body, where relics of Buddha and sculptures of different styles and periods can be found.
The architectural design, stained glass windows and staircases decorated with spiritual symbols make this tour almost a meditative experience. At every turn, you will find yourself surrounded by elements that intertwine history, religion and beauty.
The gardens surrounding the museum, with their ponds, sculptures and flowering paths, invite contemplation and meditation. It is an ideal place for those seeking a spiritual break, an encounter with Thai history or simply artistic inspiration.
