Step by Step

In this activity you will enjoy visiting different places of interest in the province of Kanchanaburi. The activity will last approximately 14 hours, during which you will be accompanied by an expert guide. You will learn many interesting facts about the history and culture of Thailand, as well as the flora and fauna of the places you will visit.

You will start your tour at Erawan National Park, one of the most famous national parks in the country. The park is known for the lush beauty of its vegetation, as well as its impressive crystal clear waterfalls .

Of all the waterfalls in the park, the Erawan Waterfall is the largest and most famous. It has a total of seven levels, where you can find natural pools where you can swim and refresh yourself. In addition to the waterfalls, the park is home to an abundance of flora and fauna, including elephants, deer, foxes and monkeys, as well as various species of birds and butterflies. The park is also a great place for nature-related activities such as hiking, camping and rafting .

Afterwards, you will visit the JEATH war museum. The name of the museum comes from the initials of Japan, England, Australia, Thailand and Holland. These are the countries that were involved in the construction of the so-called Death Railway, a railway that involved 61,000 prisoners of war and 200,000 Asian workers .

The museum tells the story of the construction of the railway and the life of the POWs during their internment, through photographs, displays of artefacts and replicas of living conditions in the camp. There is also a replica of the bridge and a section of the original railway track built by the POWs.

After viewing the museum, you will come to the bridge over the River Kwai, the site where the aforementioned railway was built. It is estimated that around 16,000 prisoners of war and 100,000 Asian labourers died during the construction of the bridge due to the inhumane conditions.

The original bridge was partially destroyed by Allied bombing in 1945, but was later rebuilt. Today, the bridge is a popular tourist attraction, and it is possible to take a train across the bridge while enjoying the breathtaking views of the River Kwai and the surrounding region.

Once the activity is over, you will return to Bangkok, as it is a round trip.

The POW history museum was devastating, I can't imagine what it must have felt like to be building something for the enemy.
