Step by Step
Located along the beautiful Dongshan River in Yilan, the National Taiwan Traditional Arts Centre is much more than a museum: it is a living space that celebrates and preserves Taiwan's cultural heritage. Within its 24 hectares of grounds, it offers a carefully crafted environment that combines art, tradition and active participation.
During your visit, you can enjoy daily performances of traditional theatre, music, dance and Taiwanese opera. Through its restored architecture and cobblestone streets, the centre creates the feeling of having travelled back in time to an ancient city steeped in history and cultural detail.
The experience is rounded off with interactive exhibits on traditional crafts such as calligraphy, woodworking, bookbinding, pottery and more. If you're up for it, you can sign up for one of the optional craft workshops and take home a unique piece of your own.
The Centre also has shops selling local products, cafés and rest areas that allow you to spend a whole day there without rushing. It's ideal for families with children as well as curious travellers looking for an immersive and authentic experience.
And if you're looking for a special end to your visit, you can take a boat ride from the centre to the Dongshan River Water Park (extra charge), adding nature to the cultural journey.
