Did you know that the Cibeles fountain has a lesser-known "brother"? Or that the Puerta de Alcalá hides a curious secret? On this free tour of Bourbon Madrid you'll discover how the arrival of this dynasty changed the image of the Spanish capital forever.
The tour starts in the central Plaza de Pontejos, from where your guide will take you to visit some of the most representative places of the city. The first stop will be at Puerta del Sol, where you'll meet the great driving force behind Madrid's urban change: King Carlos III, nicknamed the city's "best mayor".
Along the route, you will visit such emblematic places as the Congress of Deputies, the Neptune Fountain, the Apollo Fountain and, of course, the Cibeles Fountain, all part of the monumental axis devised by the Bourbons. You will stroll along the historic Paseo del Prado, designed as a space for knowledge, science and recreation, surrounded by cultural institutions.
The tour ends at the imposing Puerta de Alcalá, one of the old royal entrances to Madrid and a symbol of Bourbon urban planning. In total, about two hours of enjoyable sightseeing, ideal for those who want a historical and visual introduction to Madrid from a monarchical and cultural perspective.
