Step by Step
This tour is done on an electric fat bike, i.e. a bike with bigger wheels that make it easier to ride over rough terrain. The experience starts from Corralejo, in the north of the island, and lasts about 2 hours. In addition to the fat bike and helmet rental, it includes an expert guide who will lead you through rocky and sandy trails, extinct volcanoes and the picturesque coastal town of Majanicho. If you're staying in Corralejo, you can also enjoy hotel pick-up and drop-off.
Like the other islands of the archipelago, Fuerteventura has been shaped by the action of volcanoes. Frequent eruptions have increased the surface area of Fuerteventura, creating tongues of land and islets. The first stop is just a few kilometres from Corralejo: Bayuyo, an alignment of extinct volcanoes that form an extreme and striking landscape.
The second stop is only a few minutes away. This is Calderón Hondo, the island's most famous volcano. It is barely more than 250 metres high, but the view from the crater is spectacular. It is a classic destination for hiking routes, but can also be covered by electric bicycle.
After leaving this area behind, you will reach Majanicho, a handful of houses overlooking a bay with crystal-clear waters. It's a remote place with great charm, but unlike other parts of the island, there are no restaurants or bars. For this reason, I recommend you bring your own provisions.
Normally, the excursion includes a stop for a dip and a refreshing dip before returning to Corralejo. As it is an arm of the sea protected from the currents, swimming is easy, as well as spotting groupers, clown fish and other species. A typical feature of the beach are the popcorn-shaped stones that have been a big hit on Instagram. After this last stage, you will take the electric bike back to Corralejo.
