Step by Step

Sign up for a private guided tour of the Viana Palace in Cordoba. The visit lasts approximately 1 hour and a half and you will be able to tour the interior of this 15th century Andalusian treasure. You will be accompanied by an expert guide, from whom you will learn many interesting facts about the history and architecture of one of the city's most emblematic buildings.

The Renaissance style palace was built in the 15th century and was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1981. The building is famous for its typical Cordovan courtyards, full of water and vegetation. The courtyards are linked together by galleries and halls, which you will also have the opportunity to visit.

Some of the most famous courtyards of the palace are the following:

  • Patio del Recibio: This courtyard gives the main access to the Palacio de Viana, and was designed to dazzle the visitor and show the nobility of the enclosure and the inhabitants of the house. Given that the courtyard was the entrance to a stately home, it had to be impeccable at all times, which is why the selection of plants it houses has always been very careful.
  • Patio of the Cats: So called because the felines flocked to the place, attracted by the smells of the food. This was due to the fact that the patio is located next to the old kitchens of the property.
  • Orange Tree Courtyard: Known for its characteristic fountains, the Orange Tree Courtyard is inspired by the Spanish-Muslim gardens, which were a key inspiration for the design of the Cordoban courtyards. These courtyards were conceived as private places, with plants and water as the main elements.
  • Patio de las Rejas (Courtyard of the Grilles): This courtyard owes its name to the three grilles that were built to allow views of the courtyard from the outside. This was done to satisfy the need of the Renaissance nobility to show their prestige and social position. It is a courtyard full of scents, as it is filled with orange, lemon and bergamot trees .

The palace also has a multitude of other courtyards, a garden of French and Andalusian inspiration, stately lounges and collection galleries, full of paintings, tapestries and a library full of classics. In short, a visit to the Palacio de Viana is full of beauty, culture and nature. It is one of the jewels of Andalusian historical heritage.
