Step by Step

A virtual reality flight is an original way to see Lisbon. The experience is carried out with state-of-the-art 4D viewers and uses a mechanical device that simulates the movements in flight. It lasts approximately 20 minutes and includes an audio guide. During this time, you will fly over the Portuguese capital and get a close-up view of the following monuments.

  • Praça do Comércio - Large neoclassical square in the Baixa district, a short walk from the river. Before the earthquake that devastated Lisbon in the 18th century, this was the site of the royal palace and numerous government buildings.
  • Belém Tower - A bastion with four small towers overlooking the Tagus River. Built during the reign of Manuel I, it is dedicated to Portuguese navigators.
  • São Jorge Castle - A very old fortification that has witnessed the different civilisations that have succeeded one another over the centuries. Many of its structures did not survive the Lisbon earthquake, but its silhouette still watches over the Portuguese capital.
  • 25 de Abril Bridge - Inaugurated in 1966, it is one of the symbols of the Portuguese capital. Its structure and colour are reminiscent of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.
  • Cristo Rei - A huge statue of Jesus inspired by the sculpture that dominates Rio de Janeiro. At its feet is a sanctuary inaugurated in the 1930s.

The virtual reality experience is not limited to Lisbon, but reaches some nearby attractions. The most famous is probably the Palácio Nacional da Pena, a romantic-style castle that overlooks Sintra from a hilltop. However, the flight overlooks other buildings in the city, such as the Monserrate Palace and the Quinta da Regaleira.

The experience is dedicated to Bartolomeu de Gusmão, a Brazilian Jesuit monk. Passionate about science, in the early 18th century he presented his invention, La Passarola, to the Portuguese King John V. It was a kind of rudimentary hot air balloon that managed to rise a few metres above the ground.

I didn't find the sounds as good, but otherwise I have nothing to criticise. It's a great flying experience, I highly recommend you to try this at least once.

This flying experience is simply perfect, from the visuals to the movements. I leave more than impressed, I hope to be able to repeat something like this in the future to see the advances in technology.
