Step by Step
This free walking tour of Montmartre is a direct immersion into the history, culture and personality of one of Paris' most iconic neighbourhoods. During the tour you'll get to know both its best-known icons and corners that only locals frequent, thanks to native Parisian guides who bring every corner to life with stories and fun facts.
The tour starts at Blanche metro station and, in just a few steps, you'll be in front of the legendary Moulin Rouge. From there, you'll wander through charming alleyways and historic facades, passing places like La Maison Rose, Le Moulin de la Galette and the Place du Tertre, where street artists still paint.
Montmartre was home to artists such as Picasso, Renoir and Van Gogh, and still breathes the bohemian air that made it famous. The route also touches on aspects of French pop culture, including locations from films such as Amélie.
The tour ends at the highest point in Paris: the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, with a spectacular view of the city. Although you don't enter the monuments, the experience is rich in context and inspiration, and is designed for all audiences, including children and people with reduced mobility.
Remember to arrive a few minutes early. The guide will be waiting for you in a pink waistcoat, and if you're late, you can join at the second stop: the Moulin Rouge.
