Step by Step
This tour of Lyon is a private and fully customisable experience. Only you and your group will participate and you will be able to decide yourself what to visit. Therefore, the duration of the activity is entirely up to you. You will have an expert guide at your disposal throughout the tour.
Please note that this activity does not include entrance fees for paid attractions. If you wish to visit a museum or something else, you will have to pay for the tickets separately (including the guide). The itinerary starts from a central location in Lyon, such as the statue dedicated to Louis XVI in Place Bellecour.
Lyon is an elegant city located at the confluence of two rivers: the Rhône and the Saône. It is one of the gastronomic capitals of France and encompasses Roman remains, Renaissance quarters and modern architecture. Among its attractions, the following are worth mentioning:
- Traboules - Passages that pass through the interior of buildings and courtyards. They are found both in the old town and in the Croix-Rousse district.
- Parc de la Téte d'Or - A large green area on the banks of the Rhône river. It includes a lake with boats, children's playgrounds and a botanical garden. The rose garden is also worth a stroll.
- Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière - It dominates the city from above and is recognisable by its four towers with battlements.
- Fresque des Lyonnais Célèbres - A large mural paying homage to famous Lyon figures such as the Lumière brothers, the Roman emperor Claudius and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the author of "The Little Prince".
- Place Terraux - Elegant urban space housing the town hall, the Auguste Bartholdi fountain and the Museum of Fine Arts.
- La Confluence - Former industrial district, now an artistic and nightlife centre. Its landmarks are the orange cube and the Musée des Confluences.
- Roman Theatre - Amphitheatre dating from 43 BC, the founding year of Lugdum, the Roman ancestor of today's Lyon.
Being a walking tour, I recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes. The local guide can point out the best bouchons, the traditional taverns of Lyon.
