Step by Step

Get to know the Luberon in Provence with this tour to Gordes, Roussillon and the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque from Avignon. This half day tour will take you to Roussillon, the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque or the ochre mines of Bruoux (depending on the date of the tour), Gordes and Domaine de la Citadelle. In addition, the group will be small, no more than 6 people. The tour includes guide, driver, transport, a picnic and a wine tasting.

You will start the tour by going from Avignon to Roussillon, a village known for its ochre-coloured hills. You will be able to walk through its streets and observe the reddish and orange tones of the buildings and geological formations. It is not for nothing that it is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France.

After visiting Roussillon you will visit the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque or the ochre mines of Bruoux. The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque is a 12th century Cistercian abbey surrounded by lavender fields. The lavender can be seen from the end of June to the end of July, outside these dates it is not at its best. Alternatively, you can visit the ochre mines of Bruoux.

You will head towards Gordes, a medieval village built on top of a rocky hill. There you can stroll through the cobbled streets and see the curious stone houses. Gordes is considered the most beautiful village in France, because of its natural setting and its well-preserved architecture.

After visiting Gordes you will go to Domaine de la Citadelle, a Luberon vineyard where you can taste several wines in a wine tasting. Luberon is an appellation wine region of Provence and they distil some of the best wines in the region. Enjoy the scenery of the Luberon region and visit the most beautiful and picturesque villages in France with this half day tour of Provence.

The tour was a unique experience, immersing me in the beauty of the region, although I think they could improve by better organising the timing of each stop.

I loved visiting the colourful villages and the abbey, it was like travelling back in time. My favourite part was seeing the lavender fields in full bloom.
