Dubrovnik Day Trip from Split

This tour lasts about 12 hours and departs from Split or Traù (Trogir), a medieval town a few kilometres to the north. The destination is Dubrovnik, a Unesco World Heritage Site and the location of many scenes from Game of Thrones. Travel is by air-conditioned minibus along a scenic highway, overlooking the Adriatic and its islands.

The activity includes a local guide, but you will also have free time to explore the city at your own pace. In Dubrovnik, the main attractions are as follows:

• St. John's Fortress: built between the 14th and 16th centuries, it overlooks the sea and fits within the medieval walls.
• Placa: also known as Stradun, it is a long street in the historic centre. It is notable for its white marble paving, as well as its numerous bars and restaurants
• Cathedral: the façade and interior mix three architectural styles: Byzantine, Romanesque and Baroque. It was renovated in the Middle Ages thanks to the English King Richard the Lionheart.
• Sponza Palace: a landmark of the city, it once housed the customs house, the mint and the state treasury. It is a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles and its façade is typical Venetian architecture.
• Lokrum: a small unspoilt island a short distance from the harbour. It is home to a 12th century Benedictine monastery and a Napoleonic-era fort.

The excursion is available in all seasons and is suitable for all ages. Lunch is not included, but there is no shortage of options to try local specialities such as burek (puff pastry stuffed with minced meat, cheese, potatoes and vegetables) or pasticada, marinated veal stuffed with bacon.
