Step by Step

The Summer Palace is one of Beijing's most iconic landmarks and a must-see to understand the history, art and court life of ancient China. With this 2-hour walking tour in a small group, you will get to know in depth this extensive complex, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, with an expert local guide.

During the tour you will visit some of the most representative areas of the palace, such as:

  • Kunming Lake, the central axis of the complex, with its islands and bridges evoking Chinese natural landscapes.
  • The Hill of Longevity, with its temples and stepped pavilions.
  • The Long Gallery, a covered gallery with more than 700 metres of decorative paintings
  • The Seventeen Arches Bridge, which connects to Nanhu Island.

Throughout the tour, your guide will explain the history of the Qing dynasty, the tastes of Empress Cixi, and how the architecture and gardens reflect traditional Chinese philosophy and aesthetics. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and take photos in the most picturesque corners of the palace.

The small group size, with a maximum of 15 people, ensures a closer, smoother and more personalised experience. It is an ideal way to get to know this iconic place without the crowds of larger tours.
