Step by Step
This activity is particularly suitable for snow and outdoor sports enthusiasts. It is a fat bike (a type of electric bike) tour through Mount Royal Park, located on a hill overlooking Montreal. An experienced guide will accompany you along the trails, taking advantage of the stops to tell you anecdotes about the history of the city. The total duration is approximately 2 hours.
Mount Royal is actually composed of three reliefs: Colline de la Croix (the central peak), Colline d'Outremont and Westmount. The highest point is 233 metres above sea level and can be reached by following the Camillien Houde route (the most difficult) or the main trail (less demanding). The following points of interest can be found on its territory:
- Monument to Sir George-Étienne Cartier - A large obelisk with allegorical figures and a statue representing him. It is dedicated to the eponymous lawyer and statesman, one of Canada's founding fathers.
- Café Santropol - Founded in 1976, it is a cosy, alternative restaurant that has become very popular with the locals.
- Beaver Lake - A man-made lake in the shape of a shamrock. In winter it becomes a skating rink.
- Cemetery - Situated on the north hillside and reminiscent of the rural cemeteries of the early 19th century. Its funerary monuments are of exceptional architectural and artistic value.
The fat bike is a derivation of the mountain bike and was developed for pedalling over snow, sand and rough terrain. The large wheels provide good stability and a fun ride, as you don't have to worry too much about bumps. They are suitable for both experts and beginners and, being electric, you don't have to make a big effort, just pedal and enjoy the scenery.
